Krótki opis

We are looking for a candidate interested in research work in advanced nanotechnology and materials physics. She/He will be trained in scanning probe microscopy and related techniques and characterize the mechanical properties of layered and polymeric materials down to the nanometer scale. Specifically, we aim to investigate the early-stages of abrasive wear on these materials and interpret the results from a physical point of view. The candidate will study the mechanisms of rippling and chipping leading to the formation of ordered nanostructures on the aforementioned surfaces, relate these processes to the friction forces measured while scratching in a controlled way, and apply theoretical models currently developed with other groups to reproduce her/his experimental observations. The master thesis will be developed in the context of an ongoing NCN (OPUS) project. Further developments in the field of environmental sustainability are not excluded.
